Acute Weight Loss Due to Heavy Parasite Load (worms in goats) brought on by Shipping Stress
This pygora goat lost a tremendous amount of weight in a very short period of time.. due to an explosion of parasites after a move to a new home just 1 month prior. (Shipping Stress related worm load) He was de-wormed 3 times with Ivomec injections SubQ every 10 days.. He weighed 22 pounds at the time of deworming. (His weight before the move was 34 pounds.) His dull rumpled looking coat also shows that he has a worm load. This is the same goat 3 1/2 months later. He gained 20 pounds and his coat is now shiney and lusterous.
UPDATE: 2007 This is Codie today - a healthy 80 lb wether.
Just goes to show you even some of the worst parasite load cases can get turned around if the situation is aggressively treated - and luck is on your side..
